A tragic accident in Pittsburgh has claimed the life of 31-year-old Jacinta Stevens after her vehicle plunged into the icy Monongahela River from the Parkway East on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred near the 900 block of Second Avenue in the city’s Bluff neighborhood, prompting a large emergency response.

According to Allegheny County dispatchers, emergency crews were called to the scene around 4:36 p.m. after reports of a vehicle in the water. Dive teams entered the river at approximately 5:20 p.m. and worked under extremely difficult conditions, including freezing temperatures and poor visibility. About 25 minutes later, divers successfully located and removed the victim from the submerged vehicle.

Using a rope system and a stokes basket, first responders carefully brought Stevens to the surface. Paramedics immediately began life-saving efforts before transporting her to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead later that night.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Jacinta Stevens of Pittsburgh’s West End. Police believe her vehicle left the Parkway East and entered the river, though the exact circumstances surrounding how the crash occurred remain under investigation.

Initial reports suggested there may have been two vehicles in the water, but authorities later confirmed this information was incorrect. A second dive was conducted to ensure no other victims were involved. The vehicle was found about five feet from the river wall and will be recovered at a later time.
