Illinois State University Mourns The Loss Of Beloved Student

A tragic workplace incident unfolded at the Northrop Grumman facility in Linthicum, Maryland, after an altercation between two security guards turned deadly. The shooting occurred at the aerospace and defense company’s site along Aviation Boulevard, shocking employees and the surrounding community.

According to charging documents released by Anne Arundel County Police, the incident stemmed from a meeting related to job performance. The alleged gunman, identified as 26-year-old Dylan Blake Chandler of Pasadena, and another guard, 37-year-old Joseph Keith Aman, were called into a supervisor’s office on January 28 to discuss concerns regarding Chandler’s performance at work.

During the meeting, the supervisor reportedly witnessed Chandler open fire on Aman. Aman was fatally wounded in the shooting and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say the supervisor acted quickly, managing to disarm Chandler and restrain him until police arrived.

Investigators revealed that Chandler later told detectives he “snapped” during the meeting, claiming he felt frustrated and believed Aman was not being held accountable for workplace issues. Both men were employed by Allied Security Services, a private firm contracted to provide security for Northrop Grumman.

The incident has raised serious concerns about workplace safety, particularly in high-security environments. Employees at the facility were placed on lockdown during the police response, and counseling services were reportedly offered to staff affected by the tragedy.

Northrop Grumman released a brief statement expressing condolences to the victim’s family and confirming cooperation with law enforcement. “We are deeply saddened by this incident and extend our thoughts to everyone impacted,” the company said.

Chandler has been taken into custody and is expected to face multiple criminal charges, including first-degree murder. Police confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to review surveillance footage, interview witnesses, and determine how Chandler accessed a firearm while on duty.

The incident serves as a grim reminder of the potential consequences of unresolved workplace conflict and the importance of early intervention, mental health support, and strict security protocols in professional settings.
